Abstract
The Parameterized Linear Array with a Reconfigurable Pipeline Bus System (LARPBS(p)) is an optical bus-based parallel computing model proposed by d'Auriol and Molakaseema (2005). This model extends and introduces new capabilities from that of the earlier proposed LARPBS model (Pan et al. 1996) by incorporating architecture parameterization leading to more exact cost analysis for algorithms developed for the LARPBS(p) and LARPBS models. This talk presents a survey of optical bus-based models based on the work of d'Auriol and Beltran (2006) and d'Auriol and Draper (2005). The LARPBS(p) model is detailed including its fiber-based and free space-based proposed implementations, virtual machine abstractions, and computation and communication primitives. The parameterization of the model is explained in context of a bridging model between the proposed architecture implementations and these primitives. The determination of parameter values is discussed. Lastly, algorithm cost analyses are developed for several algorithms.
